I have tried to contact you via email and have gotten no response so I will try here. I received “adventure 3” on CD and it is unlistenable. It’s sounds mostly like static with a distant drum beat. Is there some way we can resolve this issue ?
Recorded on December 7th, 2019, Alex Massa’s third volume in his “Plays Well With Others Adventures” series is a collection of five songs written in Iceland, New Orleans, and Winnipeg - places that Alex has called home over the past decade. Brilliantly performed by renowned Chicago masters and adventurists themselves, guitarist Dave Miller, bassist Anton Hatwich, and drummer/percussionist Isaiah Spencer breathe fire into the record.
Sex Hair, written as a loose boogaloo and dripping with sass from the entire ensemble, is an ode to love.
Natasha was written while in Winnipeg, in tribute to a great friend Alex made while traveling the world as a cruise ship musician in 2012. The uneasy melodic structure, reaching to a low ‘g’, and the wacky harmonic underlying that follows intriguing paths keeps listeners at the edge of their seats and expecting a resolution that may never happen.
North Prieur & Kerlerec, written in New Orleans, was the corner that Alex lived on for the last 4 years he live in the legendary city. Originally written as an outro to a different tune, it stands by itself quite well, and does its best to describe the laziness of a hot summer day in the crescent city.
Norðurljós (Nor-dur-lee-yos) - Icelandic for ‘aurora borealis’ - was written as a very free and interpretive description of the Northern Lights. During a month-long artistic residency in Iceland, Alex had the opportunity to fall asleep early in the morning, watching the Northern Lights shimmer across the night sky from the comfort of his twin bed.
Stöðvarfjörður (Stuth-var-fjord-ur) was the name of the village (population approx 150) where Alex spent said residency. Located in the Eastfjords, Stöðvarfjörður used to be a giant presence in the countries fishing industry. As time would have it, their main fish factory was sold for a smaller factory right next door (bigger factory no longer needed due to progress in oceanic/truck shipping), and the main factory was purchased and turned into a gigantic creative center. With nearly 20,000 square feet, a concert hall (where fish used to be stacked 100 feet high, 250 feet long, 80 feet wide), woodworking shop, visual studio, electrical workshop, sewing/clothing workshop, basketball court, recording studio (looking over the ocean, no less), and private studios, Alex found a wealth of inspiration.

This is a album I've gone back to several times. Matt lets his group play, and play they do. All of these pieces fell like full-group efforts, not written by a bassist to feature bass. Some songs feel driven, some searching, some making statements. Outstanding. Kenneth Pyron

i must admit now that i collect hendrix covers. his material is SO strong that there are many, and very few really ones. this is one of the best ever. these tracks are hot, and strange, and beautiful, and strong, yet essentially faithful in a colorful way. magical workings! CH
